Kenneth Petty, the husband of renowned artiste Nicki Minaj, has been handed a 120-day home detention order. This ruling comes in the wake of his probation violation due to the posting of video clips on social media that seemingly threatened the well-known rapper Offset.
A court order filed in the Central District of California on Wednesday mandates home monitoring for Petty. This decision stems from him being captured on video making threatening statements towards a particular individual, all while in the presence of someone with a criminal record. The individual referred to in the order is Offset, and these recorded clips pertain to a series of messages directed by Petty at the rapper, which were posted on social media on September 16.
In July 2022, Petty received a three-year probation sentence after he admitted guilt in failing to register as a sex offender in California in 2020. Back in 1995, he faced a conviction for first-degree attempted rape involving a 16-year-old girl and served a four-year prison term in New York.
In a widely circulated video on September 16th across social media, Kenneth Petty and a group of his associates are captured outside a New York City hotel, reportedly the location where Offset was staying. Within the video, amidst a series of menacing remarks, Petty is heard saying, “plan that vacation, you gonna be planning your funeral!.”
In a video shared on Offset’s social media, the rapper casually dismissed the threats. Offset remarked, “I’m getting off a jet, he’s funny,” implying that Petty was broke.
Offset, formerly part of the Atlanta rap trio Migos, is the husband of rapper Cardi B. Notably, Minaj and Cardi B have a longstanding feud, which escalated during an altercation at the Harper’s Bazaar Icons party during New York Fashion Week in September 2018. Viral videos from the incident captured Cardi B lunging at Minaj and engaging in a physical altercation.
Nicki Minaj and her now-husband Kenneth “Zoo” Petty first met as teenagers while attending the same high school. They initially drifted apart and lost contact for several years. However, in 2018, they serendipitously reconnected, sparking a whirlwind romance that eventually culminated in marriage and the arrival of their child in the following years.
Who is Offset?
Kiari Kendrell Cephus (born December 14, 1991), known professionally as Offset, is an American rapper. He rose to prominence as part of the hip hop group Migos, alongside Quavo and Takeoff.
At the age of 11-years-old, he was featured as a backup dancer in the video for “Whatchulookinat” by Whitney Houston.
In 2017, Offset started dating fellow rapper Cardi B. They married privately on September 20, 2017 and the latter became a stepmother to his three children from past relationships. They staged a public proposal the next month at a live performance at Power 99’s Powerhouse in Philadelphia.
